Our GX460/Prado Fender Flare Kit is about 1.5 inches wide. It is designed to protect your vehicle's body panels from the dirt and rocks picked up by wider and taller off-road tires.
The kit is made with high-quality automotive grade injection molded polyurethane finished in satin black paint that is UV and scratch resistant. An optional black primer finish is available for those who are going to paint the fender flares to match their vehicle's paint color. We recommend sanding the primer with 1,000-2,000 grit sandpaper before painting.
The Fender Flare Kit does not require any modifications or trimming of the OEM parts on the car.
The Fender Flares are held on by 3M™ Super Strength Molding Tape. It is a simple installation, without the need to remove any OEM body panels.
The vehicle's surface needs to be thoroughly cleaned with alcohol before the installation to ensure a proper bond with the 3M™ tape.
We recommend power sanding the back side of the fender flares with 200 grit sandpaper and then applying adhesion promoter before installing two layers of the 3M™ tape for the best result. Optimal surface temperature for the 3M™ Super Strength Molding Tape is above 65°F (18°C).
The polyurethane material can be heat formed to fit better to the body panels.
Silicone caulking is also recommended for longevity and weatherproofing.
Overall, the product was excellent with a very quick delivery time. But, there was some overspray of the powder coating into the threaded m8 bolt holes in the middle of the crossmember. I did have to get a tap set and re-thread the holes, but that was the only issue. I am happy with the quality of the product I paid for, but I would encourage some more focused quality control to save some of the possible headache that someone else might face.
